These 4 books together are an absolute MUST have!Written so well, an emotional roller coaster ride, all the feelings, I am totally in love with these 2 Duets!Do yourself a favor and get them.
These four books pack quite a punch! I felt so many emotions from happiness to sadness, anger, frustration, and then ultimately euphoric. These book, while they may not be everyone's favorites, are the most original I have ever read! Meghan Quinn doesn't hold back in giving her readers a REAL and HONEST love story. I feel like I could read these books over and over again.Potential readers: I implore you to keep an open mind when reading The Duets box set. You will feel a ton of emotions like I did but in the end you will see how wonderful and realistic these books are! I honestly can't recommend them enough. They are truly amazing!
This author is one of my favorites for a reason. She creates characters that make me laugh, cry, and FEEL. Leave it to her to create a box set of two separate duets called Duets. Even though I own these books separately I had to buy the boxset too. I highly recommend this. I have combined my separate reviews for each book below.The Upside of Falling4.7 starsEvery time I see a new book by this author I do a little happy dance and celebrate. It is truly a Festivus miracle. I never know if it will be a one filled with snarky humor that has me laughing out loud or if it will be one that tears out my soul and has me ugly crying since she has been known to do both. In true fashion, this author has done it again and created a whole new style of a book as this is neither of those. Instead, it is one that is slow-burning and poignant. The anticipation and build up in the relationship between Colby and Rory are perfect I do not think that it could have worked any other way. It is an old-fashioned romance filled with love letters and old-fashioned wooing set in modern times.Colby. Good Lord. This man needs and deserves love more than any other hero I think that this author has written. Rory. So persistent and with a such a beautiful soul. Together they are perfect for each other.This book ends on a WHOPPER of a cliffhanger. I am thankful that this author won't make me wait months to release the sequel as I NEED answers.The Downside of Love:4.8 starsIt is official this author is a wizard. I had no idea how she was going to resolve this duet without me hating certain characters after the whopper of a cliffhanger from The Upside of Falling. I told myself it was impossible. I should have known that she would prove me wrong. Not only did she prove me wrong she knocked it out of the park.I cannot even say much about this story because it would ruin it for those that have not read it. Just know that in true fashion, this author did create magic again. She wrote a story about love and all the beautiful and often ugly sides to it. Love comes in a plethora of ways. Sometimes they can be first love, forever love, unrequited love, ex-love. All of them combined in some form or another shape the person we are and leave a lasting imprint. To every season there is a reason. Being selfless in regards to loving someone is often the hardest and most painful lesson to learn and sometimes it is a lesson to love unconditionally no matter the outcome in order to be able to fly free.This book/duet is not in the normal wheelhouse of this author. She is mostly associated as the Queen of RomCom. Don't let that moniker fool you because she can do it all. I am not sure how I forgot considering Dear Life was the first book I read by this author and she gutted me with that one. If you are looking for a book that is poignant, raw, sometimes ugly and makes your heartache then look no further.Also, can I just say Holy Titfire on that epilogue?!?! It is a Festivus Miracle!The Left Side of Perfect4.5 starsWhen I first met the leading man in The Blue Line Duet, I fell hard. Like my heart hurt. He made me feel all the emotions. ALL. OF. THEM. I don't normally get outwardly emotionally. I am the girl that learned a long time ago to keep my emotions in check. I have perfected RBF. Yet, this beautiful man and his story tore at my heartstrings. I am pretty sure I rivaled the Grinch with how much my heart grew. So, to know that he was going to get his story told. I was ecstatic. I knew that this amazing author would give him the story that was worthy of him. What I didn't know was that it would break my heart in other ways. In this case Ryan. She was another character from the original duet that piqued my interest. I had no idea that her story would have this much impact.Without giving away the story, let me just tell you to be prepared for your heartstrings to hurt again. There is so much more to this girl than what meets the eye. This story ended on a cliffhanger and it is a whopper and serious blow to your heart. This author is a dang wizard at putting her reader through the wringer. Yet, I know that in the next book she will make it all better. I just have to trust her!The Right Side of Forever4.8 starsAfter reading The Left Side of Perfect, I wasn't sure how this author was going to make this right. I often liken her to a wizard because she can do anything. Yet, I was still holding my heart because I was on pins and needles hoping she didn't just change course and I would Ship this couple that could never be. I didn't need to worry because although it was a bumpy ride she made me happy.The author does an exceptional job at discussing an issue that plagues many people, both men, and women. I know I have had the same issues many times. Hell, if I am being honest I still struggle with showing my left side. Yet, it is books like this that bring awareness to the struggles and allows people to know they aren't alone in feeling that way. This book depicts the importance of loving oneself. If you cannot love yourself then you truly aren't able to foster a relationship built on love. I loved how devoted and patient the hero was in showing that beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder. He loves his girl and in his eyes, there are no flaws only perfection and in turn, he wants it forever. Some of the things he does or says is truly heartwarming.I love that we get to see the letters that were so pivotal in the Blue Lines duet. They were perfect for bringing this full circle and showing that sometimes we need those stepping stones to get on the right path. I started this journey with this author as my go-to RomCom storyteller. She is so much more than that now. It has been a pleasure to watch her spread her wings and fly and create a diverse writing style. Don't get me wrong, I still love her humor and snark, but something tells me she is moving in a different direction and I am okay with that.
The Upside of Falling/The Downside of Love - Colby is focused on his dream of becoming a fighter pilot and Rory is one of the few people that he has allowed to come close. They know that it is only a matter of time until Colby has to leave but even that can’t stop their hearts from becoming involved. After he leaves life goes on, decisions are made, feelings change, and a different life begins. You make the best choices that you can all the while knowing that the consequences could be painful for some or all.The Left Side of Perfect/The Right Side of Forever – Our hero was dreading that he would be attending the wedding of his ex but when he sees “Her†she helps him get through the painful evening but never expected to see her again however fate throws them together and they became great friends. She comes into his life when he least expects it but when he needs her the most, however will she derail the plans he already had for the future?I have enjoyed both these duets and it is great to have them in one collection.
Highly recommend this box set. The Blue Line and Perfect Duets were some of the best stories that I've ever read.I yelled and screamed about these books to anyone that would listen. Stayed up all night to read them. They consumed my life. They will absolutely rank up there on my favorite stories ever. They are full of angst, heartbreak, redemption. Love triangle perfection.
